Our Story

Our Breeding Program

Ruby Rose Labradors is a dedicated hobby breeder of high-quality English Labrador Retrievers, committed to improving the breed through a robust health-first approach. We emphasize exceptional temperament, structural soundness, and breed‐standard beauty to produce Labradors that become outstanding family companions. All of our breeding dogs undergo comprehensive health screenings—based off of OFA required and recommended testing.

We put health and temperament with English Labrador conformation in every breeding. Puppies are raised in a warm, home-based environment, receiving early socialization and individual care. We introduce crate training and potty training to help with the transition to their new home. We have a thoughtful matching process to place each puppy in a responsible, lifelong home. Transparency is a cornerstone of our program—families receive full access to health records, pedigrees, and ongoing breeder support long after adoption.

Yellow, Black, and Chocolate

The American Kennel Club (AKC) recognizes three official coat colors for Labrador Retrievers: black, chocolate, and yellow. Black and chocolate Labradors exhibit relatively uniform coloring, yellow Labs have an variation of shades, ranging from snow white to deep fox red. Despite these visual differences, all these variations fall under the "yellow" category in AKC standards .

Understanding the Yellow Labrador Color

The diverse shades seen in yellow Labradors are primarily due to genetic factors influencing pigment production. Two main pigments determine coat color in dogs: eumelanin (black/brown) and pheomelanin (yellow/red). The specific shade of a yellow Labrador’s coat depends on the type and concentration of these pigments. For instance, a higher concentration of pheomelanin can result in a richer, fox-red color, while lower concentrations may produce a lighter, white/yellow-colored coat. Regardless of their outward appearance, all yellow Labradors share the same fundamental genetic makeup concerning coat color and in return are recognized as Yellow Labradors recognized by the AKC.
